Girls+ Rock Ottawa presents Songwriting 101, a workshop designed for beginner and intermediate artists, musicians, and storytellers seeking to challenge their perspective of songwriting in an open and collaborative environment. This workshop will give you an overview of the songwriting process from start to finish, including beginner music theory, maintaining a creative process, and making your first demo

The Songwriting 101 Workshop will provide you with an overview of:

  • Beginner music theory and composition

  • Developing a creative process

  • The relationship between personal wellbeing and songwriting

  • Maintaining and sustaining your songwriting skills

  • The importance of collaboration

  • Technology - making your first demo

  • Where songwriters fit into today’s DIY industry

  • Songwriting challenges and exercises

Facilitated by Grace Marr, a seasoned local songwriter who has an extensive repertoire of original music and a background in music education.
