WHat is Rock camp for girls+?
Rock Camp for Girls+ is an empowering experience for girls, femmes, non-binary, two-spirit and gender non-conforming folk aged 13-18 to learn an instrument, form a band and perform a song at a music showcase in front of family and friends!
Over the course of a weekend, campers learn how to play an instrument (bass, guitar, drums or keyboard), form a band, and work together as a team. The camp ends with a showcase concert where the campers get to show off the skills they learned during the weekend! In addition, fun and educational workshops will take place during the weekend (see a sample itinerary here). Musical experience and instruments are not needed to participate in Rock Camp for Girls+, only curiosity and a willingness to step outside your comfort zone!
The 2019 Rock Camp for Girls+ will take place on November 8th - 10th, 2019.
The camp takes place in different locations over the course of the weekend for the three different events (orientation night, two days of practicing and workshops, and the final showcase).
The 2019 venues are:
FRIDAY: Orientation Night @ National Arts Centre (1 Elgin St)
SATURDAY & SUNDAY: Camp @ Routhier Community Centre (172 Guigues Ave)
SUNDAY: Showcase Concert @ National Arts Centre (1 Elgin St)
All venues are physically accessible spaces.
Girls+ Rock Ottawa acknowledges that this program takes place on unceded Algonquin territory.
The camp is for girls, femmes, trans, non-binary, two-spirit and gender non-conforming folk aged 13 to 18.

We are pleased to offer an honour-based sliding scale system built on need. We do not require any documentation to prove your financial situation - it is up to you and your family to decide how much you can afford to contribute.
Here is a suggested guideline for assessing your contribution:
Campers are selected by a committee seeking to establish a balanced and diverse camp population in relation to instrument, age, previous musical experience, economic status, geography and community. We anticipate receiving more applications than spots available, meaning we may not be able to accept every girl who applies. Additional information about camp will be sent with acceptance emails.
We do not refund or pro-rate tuition fees. If you need to cancel, please notify us right away. Cancellations are available up to 3 weeks prior to a camp’s start date, where we will attempt to fill your spot from the wait list. If your spot is filled, we will provide a refund minus a service fee of $75. In the event of medical emergency, credit for a future program may be available. Please note that no refunds will be issued after the start of the program.
